Answers to your questions about the paintings: What/who inspired the work? The objects themselves inspired the work. Also, Wayne Thiebaud's work has been an important springing off point. What do you hope the viewers will feel/think? I think that the works are fun, nostalgic, and representations of objects that are themselves interesting representations. I simply hope the paintings are enjoyed on some level. Why did you choose the medium subject matter style? As these works are the first paintings I've made in a long time, it was my intention to start with the basics - observation. These paintings come after a series of smaller drawings of the same objects in coloured pencil. My approach was to observe objects that were materially and conceptually interesting to me - rather than try to justify the works intellectually before I had made them. As the objects themselves are glossy, enamelled tin, the use of water-based high-gloss enamels seemed an appropriate material to start with.
