Nowhere Pond Oil on Panel 50 x 50cm A small figure stands next to a pond in a strange yellow light as the day draws to a close - the time when the veil between worlds appears thinnest... UPDATE: Over the moon to have been presented the Chair's Purchase Prize at the Artist Preview evening on 16th November 2019. Very happy that this painting has been selected for the ING Discerning Eye 2019 Exhibition by Sir Tim Rice. The 2019 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday 14 November – Sunday 24 November, between 10am and 5pm daily at the Mall Galleries, The Mall London SW1. Admission will be free and all the works will be for sale. https://discerningeye.org/exhibition/intro.php The Discerning Eye annual exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. The selectors choose both publicly submitted works and works by personally invited artists. Each selector's section is hung separately to give each its own distinctive identity. The impression emerges of six small exhibitions within the whole. It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names. The selectors are solely responsible for their own selection; selection is not by committee. The only restrictions are limitation of size - 20x20 inches / 50x50cm

Biography Lara Cobden is a figurative painter living and working in Norfolk. Following a degree in Painting at the University of Brighton, Lara spent 11 years in Ireland before relocating to East Anglia. Her work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally. 'Focusing on memory and sense of place, the paintings are a subjective and individual response to the natural world around me, seeing the fantastical and magical in nature. I hope there is both a stillness and fluidity in my work; in the ordinary - a sense of reverence. Paintings evolved from remembered landscapes and casual snapshots, shimmer and shift in and out of focus, both misty and precise. This balance is also contained within the composition of a painting; presence and absence. The thread pulling this work together is about 'coming home', belonging; or conversely a sense of ' unbelonging'. '
