This acrylic and mixed media piece plays on texture. Nut and Geb, the Egyptian Goddess of the sky and her Earthly counterpart, are depicted as two reflections of the same woman; sometime-distinct, but always in a tumbrel. This collection was all executed during the same period; of grappling with feelings that feel as personal and acute as they are inherited. My mother, my grandmother, her grandmother have all been with me as I paint, in fear or in celebration or in defeat. There is a kinship between the forms that does not feel accidental. They are all women I feel I have been or know.

Born and raised in Egypt, Rosaline has been painting almost throughout her life. She was tempted away from art school by a degree in archaeology, then by theatre. She is a full-time actor and producer. She draws inspiration from the ancient pictorial representation that she has always been fascinated and surrounded by, veering between expressionism and more rigid forms in various modes of experimentation. Her artwork has been exhibited in Egypt, and she is currently working out of New York.
