ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Chimpanzees are found mostly in the forests and savannah regions of Central and Western Africa. Although these areas are rapidly being encroached by humans, the chimps are largely present with some roaming freely in territories that have been encroached by humans. The impasto representation on the lower part of the painting represents those chimps that have been killed or misplaced by the same struggle. Thus the expression by the chimp in this painting is that of disapproval meant as a message to those intruding and distorting their lives and homes.
