I am a self-taught oil painter who has developed over a decade or so a style which incorporates the Pennsylvania German language, traditional motifs such as Hex Signs and Fraktur, and mosaic or stained glass-like elements which together create what I call "Heemetkunscht", or Art of my Home. Each painting has a message to the viewer written out in the PA German dialect, which is most often arranged in a way that the words blend into the composition and may not even be noticed by the viewer. I want to create decorative, colorful and peaceful paintings which carry a deep meaning on a personal level for some, and for others they can be viewed, as the PA Germans would say, 'Chust for Nice.
