About « A Cat, a Mirror and the Garden » is a painting about how spaces merge as one; the space of nature, the space of the viewer, and the reflective space in the mirror. Each space occupies its own time. I painted this painting when London was under 6 degrees, yet nature finds its rhythm; these fritillaria bulbs were underground over the long winter, and despite rain and cold, they bloom into a sea of colours; they are the symbol of defiance, the steel grit of living we can find in humble flowers. Spring Exhibition Series: " What these paintings of the Spring Exhibition Series try to do is to push impressionism forward toward Matisse; having a very daring courtship with colours and the simplicity of lines and forms, then to move even further closer to the language of Howard Hodgkin, making my new works under this lineage of less about the realistic representation, much more about the colours and its meaning behind the brushstrokes, to celebrate the power of imaginary spaces.
