Overcome Painting

My abstract work focuses more on emotion and feeling than composition. Even though I do have an idea of what colors I want to use and the layout, each brush stroke is still deeply sensitive to what state of mind and emotion i'm in at the present. This piece in particular has many layers underneath. Some of these layers were painted when i'm feeling at peace and content, some when i'm feeling anxious and overwhelmed. In the end it reveals a journey and a collage of emotions and thoughts. My hope is that the viewer can glimpse into my human experience and see the beauty in it. I chose to work with acrylic because these paints have a quick drying time and that makes it easier to work with layering. I've always enjoyed working with layers because most of the time you can see through one layer to another and that reveals depth and also gives a sense of history to the piece.
