ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is made in a multilayer technique on a board. First, the board is prepared in the same way as the old boards were prepared for writing icons. The picture is painted with acrylic. At the next stage, craquelure varnish, then oil paints and finish varnish. Each work is written from one to two weeks. The frame is also made of wood and covered with beeswax mastic. The picture and frame are decorated with ornaments from copper plates. I have never received a classical art education, so my pictures are very naive. But I put my perception of the world and all my soul in the heroes of my paintings. I really like working with wood - it is an incredibly live and breathing material that is filled with its unique energy. And this energy, combining with my creative art, is reflected in my paintings. But my special love is the wooden planks that I find in old houses. They are 50-100 years old and they have their own, incomparable energy. It’s nice to even just hold them in your hands: draw along the surface of the board and feel its structure and relief. My works are stored in private collections in the USA, Finland, China and Russia.
