About The Artwork

Another artwork in my series of acrylic paintings with hand embossed pewter. I have been developing a series of artwork to celebrate the North using pewter that I emboss free hand and sometimes acrylic gels and emulsions to translate the ice and snow. This painting "Pacific Northwest Salmon" is on a specially prepared 1"cradled board with many layers of acrylic in the background. The embossing is hand done on top quality pewter that contains absolutely no lead. The patterns embossed on the fish are inspired by native pacific North West designs but are all my own. Textured accents are in imitation silver leaf. A beautiful statement piece! It is wired and ready to hang. No frame is necessary. The edges are painted black, but could be repainted white to go with those in the series that have snow. The artwork has been varnished to protect the pewter and the acrylic for years and years. I can produce similar pieces with kayaks, inukshuks, polar bears etc...in much larger sizes such as 24" x 24". Please contact me if interested. Keywords: fish, salmon, native, water, pacific, North West, pewter, metal, north

When I paint, I am happy and feel whole. I paint the beauty of light and the joy I find in life! My work wants to be a sharing of a moment of serenity and balance. It is an expression and reconciliation of my inner dichotomy: I love creativity while needing structure; I love fluidity and softness of colors while craving realist details and lines. Consequently, for example, my watercolour demonstrate realism with colors much enhanced by my imagination. My paintings of sculptures and carvings depict the dancing light on crumbling brickwork, or pastel colors on the stone carvings. In my acrylic or watercolour “Leaves Series”, mysterious but serene light filters through the stems and leaves, water shimmers here and there as the leaves float on the pond. My oil paintings dance with vibrant colors on top of well-structured florals. My first art love was watercolour and my watercolour paintings have won many awards and I have completed major corporate commissions in watercolour. However, I am an explorer at heart and love to try new surfaces, new styles and techniques. I go from watercolour to acrylic paints to mixed media In the last few years I have become obsessed with abstract paintings. Watch for more colourful abstracts to come out of my busy studio regularly..
