About The Artwork

"Pale Rider", one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, embodying the concept of Death itself. The painting is drawing inspiration from both biblical mythology and the iconic Clint Eastwood film "Pale Rider." In the center of the composition stands the imposing figure of Pale Rider. He is depicted as a massive, broad-shouldered male figure exuding an aura of power and inevitability. Clad in a Christian clerical collar, a black shirt, and a light blue gilet. His formidable arm hold a sword with jagged edges. He balances atop a broomstick horse. This humorous choice of mount introduces a playful element to the scene. The Rider's face is enigmatic, with only his blue eyes visible beneath a handkerchief that conceals his nose and mouth. Painted on the handkerchief is a mischievous mouth with bared teeth, suggesting a hint of irony and dark humor. He wears a Christian clerical collar, a symbol of spiritual authority, a black shirt and a light blue gilet, symbolising a blending of roles—priest, preacher, and gunman, alluding to Clint Eastwood's portrayal in the movie "Pale Rider." The Rider's attire takes an eccentric turn with black pants and Santa Claus-like red boots adorned with a white furry rim, creating a surreal and jarring contrast to his otherwise formidable appearance. The horse's head is a patchwork of grey fragments, stitched together like a quilt, evoking a sense of disintegration and decay. The eyes and nostrils of the horse are sewn with red and orange threads, enhancing its unsettling appearance. Five strings adorned with tiny bells drape from its neck, adding an eerie, melodic jingle to its stride. A surreal troupe of flying and walking Halloween pumpkins accompanies Pale Rider. One pumpkin has landed on Pale Rider's shoulder. The walking pumpkins, each adorned in blue or pink socks, brandish weapons such as scythes, spears, and axes. One pumpkin leads the broomstick horse forward, guiding the spectral duo towards their ominous destiny.

My artistic practice is one of constant evolution and experimentation, shifting between ideas and techniques as I seek to keep the process fresh and challenging. Beginning with figurative art during my early days at the academy, I embarked on a transformative trajectory that includes periods of abstraction and a return to figurative painting. These shifts occur deliberately and gradually, rekindling the artistic challenge and infusing fresh vitality into my creations. Personal life experiences, including profound moments like the loss of a loved one or a transition from a vibrant urban environment to a tranquil countryside, have been instrumental in shaping these transformative shifts. Presently, my artistic exploration centers on scrutinizing the intricate connections between religion, particularly Christianity, gender dynamics, and their collective ramifications on society. I hope to raise thought-provoking questions about the enduring influence of strong religious doctrines, which, despite waning in contemporary society, continue to shape both our legal systems and perceptual frameworks. My artistic style oscillates between the realms of abstraction and figuration, with alternating phases where one style takes precedence over the other. Working primarily with acrylics and oil paints on linen, I embark on each piece with a blank canvas and minimal premeditation. This approach empowers me to paint with a sense of unrestrained freedom, sidestepping the potential constraints of meticulous preliminary studies. Such studies, while useful for some, could potentially stifle my genuine joy of painting and the innate vitality that emerges within the artwork itself.
