About The Artwork
I like the happy pansies in the spring, they are a delight to paint and I thought of Van Gogh and his quick brush strokes. I have just returned from seeing his work in Amsterdam and I feel inspired and renewed. This is an alla prima painting, done " at first attempt ". This is a technique done in a single sitting, ( although I paint standing up ). Everything is painted at once. This is a method often used when painting outdoors, on site, but I picked the pansies and painted them in my studio to have them at eye level.
