ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I made this painting during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I visited my in-laws in Cuba. With stricter quarantine restrictions, we were unable to leave the house for extended periods of time, so we had to make do with finding entertainment inside. My in-laws had begun a Parcheesi tournament in the heart of quarantine, and invited us to join. By the time we did, they were all experts and could win the game in under 10 minutes. We played again and again, time blurring as it passed.

Hepner is a painter and printmaker born and based in Brooklyn, NY. She has been creating her whole life. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s Interdisciplinary Degree Program in 2018, where she studied Global Studies, Hispanic Studies and Fine Arts. This program led her to study contemporary art in Havana, Cuba, where she lived on-and-off since. The last few years have found her in Pittsburgh; Las Cruces, NM; Havana, Cuba and New York City. Hepner has shown work in these cities, both in person and virtually during the pandemic.
