"Patina," like the other works in my "Ethereal Dreams" collection, is an abstract nod to Mother Nature. For me, personally, this was a study in trust, intuition and meditation. Patina's bold, lively, "peacock" colors came to me on a whim, largely during the painting process, and theoretically, they shouldn't work, but somehow, they do. Later, on a recent trip to Costa Rica, I was able to see that, indeed, these are the colors where the jungle meets the ocean, and the darkness of night gives way to light and the vibrant colors of the day. With its many subtle layers and light that seems to come from deep inside the canvas, this painting draws the audience in and reveals itself further with each viewing. For both the nature lover and the abstract art enthusiast, this is truly a statement piece!

“My whole life has been an education in art. From the earliest age I can remember, visits to galleries, museums and artist friends’ houses were a regular part of my life. My mother was an accomplished water-colorist, my father, an avid art collector. Probably thanks to my home in beautiful Southern California, I have always been inspired by nature, specifically, the way the colors of the sea and sky change based on the time of day, the seasons, the weather, and the place. I’m as intrigued by the endless combinations of color, texture, and movement I can create within my paintings, as I am with nature itself. Each of my paintings is multi-layered, with immense depth, but I also enjoy allowing some of the canvas to shine through. It’s a bit of a yin-yang philosophy, in that I recognize that everything and anything is possible upon a blank canvas, and the canvas invites me to bring forth those possibilities. I welcome and encourage my viewers to use their imagination to forge their own interpretation of my work. Where, I may have been inspired by the desert at dawn, the viewer may see a brilliant sunset over the sea or fog lifting off a misty lake. This is what has drawn me to explore abstract expressionism in my work. Each painting will reveal itself differently to each viewer, and the one constant I hope to share is the feeling of happiness and serenity, with an element of surprise. Even when using bold colors, there is always an air of contemplation and serenity to my work. Although nature has always informed and inspired me I’m also drawn to lively cities with deep history and centuries-old architecture, such as Paris, London, Lisbon, Stockholm, etc. This is why sometimes, I find inspiration in things as simple as a morning cappuccino or graffiti on a concrete wall. My studio, just as much as my home, is my sanctuary, and as such, I paint from a place of peace, tranquility and serene intuition. With the Ethereal Dreams collection, I’m peeling back the curtain, both metaphorically and figuratively, on my art and my heart and soul. Within each painting, it’s as though there are pieces obscured by fog, where light is attempting to shine through, and parts where it does shine through and reveals the depths of a layered, misty landscape. Although I have benefited from classical training in the arts, today I paint and create as intuitively as it gets…I let the paints and canvas, as well as my emotions, guide me.
