Periwinkle Sky Painting

This new body of work evolved during lockdowns, with so much time available in the studio, and surrounded by dried native flowers, the artist focused on the minute aspects of the banksia flowers and the protea flowers. In response to the chaos, the background is layered thick paint in strong colours, placed with energy and reckless abandonment. In contrast to this rich free flowing paint, the final layer consists of mark making, which is painstakingly added to a backdrop, taking the work in a completely different direction to it's original format. This achieves a texture and movement over the canvas that is as mesmerising as the process is itself. The abstract composition takes on a landscape of it's own. This work references sky and is full of Lilacs, pinks, periwinkle blue, a shade that is always reminiscent of the jacarandas in bloom. The technique is very therapeutic, there is order and confusion within the layers of paint and mark making which most can relate to in the state the world is in. Much is left here for the viewer to interpret the aim is that each and every one feels something relatable in this abstract work. This body of work moves away from the still life compositions featuring native flowers, and explores the freedom to create using mark making techniques in an effort to create abstract compositions that will resonate with an audience, which takes the artist back to her original art school where these techniques were explored. The work is unframed, but the sides are a deep blue framing the work perfectly, no need to frame unless preferred. The cost of the work includes the cost of custom packaging to ensure it arrives safely with the collector. Packaging this work takes a few days or so to ensure it's safe to travel, please be patient.
