About The Artwork

Nowadays Abraham Lincoln stands firmly in our United States national mythology, so to me it is natural that his(tory) becomes that of Perseus Slaying Medusa from the Greco-Roman tradition on which much of our country is built. Of course in reality the past was much more complicated - gray instead of black and white. Still that softening of nuance only makes this comparison more accurate for me in terms of how our past is remembered, as superheroes and supervillains (another one of America’s great art forms) instead of real, complicated people and problems.
