Phage Hunter Barbie: Self Portrait As Barbie As Scientist Painting

This painting was inspired by my own passion with medical science and research. I'm also fascinated with pop cultural icons and Barbie is a subject that figures in my art. So, we must ask ourselves: What if Barbie were a research bioscientist? An inspiration for all little girls and boys to aspire to science, while not sacrificing the glam?!.Thus in the best of all possible worlds --and in this painting, Barbie delivers the glam and the science. Rocking a jewel encrusted crown with her own iconic profile in silhouette and a crystal jewel necklace of bacteriophages around her neck. Indeed! Bacteriophages--or phages--are bacteria's natural born killers, used against drug resistant bacterial strains in cutting edge medicine. I'm in love with the fact that--phages--these lunar lander looking creatures are part of the solution where last resort antibiotics fail. The bioscientist that isolate them are often referred to as bacteriophagehunters. So why not a Bacteriophage Hunter Barbie, Wildly Creative Beautiful People?
