I am a self taught artist with a background in fashion design. I have enjoyed a 15 year career as a womenswear designer in London ,working for numerous successful British Highstreet brands including the Arcadia group, Next, Warehouse & most recently Reiss, who’s brand ethos is to create timeless , feminine fashion. I take this approach into my art & aim to apply attention to detail without overworking the piece to hopefully achieve an enduring asthetic that stands the test of time. I was always a creative child and my time spent working in the fashion industry has put this creativity to good use. However, after recently relocating back to Yorkshire, I have been inspired by my mum who is herself an established artist & my love of painting has re-emerged. My favoured medium is Liquid Pencil & Watercolour. It is the spontaneity of watercolour that appeals to me..... you make your mark and then go with the flow and see where it takes you. I love the authenticity of this and really enjoy getting lost in the journey of painting. I typically work in grayscale allowing me to build depth and dimension. If colour is added it is with intent to add expression. I have been lucky enough to travel with work and have been particularly inspired by the traditional Indian line art "Madhubani"... I take elements of this line drawing technique into some of my artworks. Shakespeare once said “ the eyes are the window to the soul”. This resonates with me both in person and in my paintings. I generally focus a lot of attention on the eyes & with this my ultimate intention is to convey emotion.
