Pink Body Painting

Having spent many hours building this image from direct observation I became aware of the many changes that occur whilst observing an object in natural light. There was a need for editing and reduction of detail. As the light changes throughout the day the whole form undergoes many colour, tonal and shadow variations, to such an extent that the whole object can look entirely different. Whilst doing this one is also creating a painting and this requires its own different set of rules. Changes have to be made which at times are at odds with the real. Vermeer and strangely Sargent are influences. I wanted to create an image with a certain degree of ambiguity, in which forms appear and disappear within light and shade. Here I increased the the lightest tones which means that the image to some extent disappears into the light.
