About The Artwork

This was the first painting I did. The Red Sands forts are second world defence platforms in the Thames estuary that can be seen from Whitstable. I was fortunate enough to visit them one summers day and found the history of them was fascinating. After the war they were derelict until the 1960’s when they were comandeered and used as a ‘pirate’ Radio station. After first using chalk, then pastels I discovered the joy of acrylic paints.
