About The Artwork
The unstretched size is 60 x 60 inches - 152 x 152 cm - allowing for a 2.4inch / 6cm edge to stretch over a thick edge canvas stretcher or to be neatly framed. Point Gellibrand Copper Rockpool is part of the Dune series, depicting the wild grass, tangled tea trees and twisted banksia branches that intermingle with drift wood and crushed shell found along Point Gellibrand. My artwork traces parts of the sand dunes and nearby rock pools - it can be viewed almost like a map. My practice involves sketching and painting en plein air, layering the washes of paint and charcoal as the sun makes it way through the sky and the shadows lengthen on the dune. The copper leaf highlights are the sun gilding rock-pools and flashing through the rocks. This artwork is painted in a warm cream, light and dark ochres, copper, dark green, a deep peacock green, moss greens, soft greys and taupes. The copper leaf changes in tone from warm gold copper to deep dark brass copper. I paint, I create and make things that make me happy. Sounds simple enough... but maybe that's what it should be. I was born in Ireland, grew up in Zimbabwe and have lived in the UK,USA and Australia. Meeting new people and exploring where I live inspires much of my work. I create in a medium appropriate to the inspiration. My artwork finds expression in oils, acrylics, charcoal, mixed media and glass. I use print making, stenciling, texture, fabric and transfers to create multi-layered tactile pieces. You will find my unique artwork in offices, hotels, homes, bars and restaurants in Australia, Europe, USA, Canada, China, Singapore and Southern Africa. I have 14 years of experience consulting on various international projects where the work was created to specification as the majority of the projects required custom made artwork. I understand how to evaluate and select materials that align with aesthetics, compliance and individual needs. I am very comfortable with collaborating on a brief and love the cross pollination of ideas that result from co-designing art work.
