At the heart of 'Pool,' we find ourselves face-to-face with an icon, a symbol that needs no introduction—a beacon guiding us to the aquatic haven of public swimming pools. Picture it: the image emblazoned on countless street corners, a siren's call to sun-soaked leisure and aqueous bliss. Here, in this masterpiece, it's been plucked from its mundane surroundings and transplanted onto a canvas of golden sand, not unlike the inviting shores of a tranquil beach. As we gaze upon this composition, it beckons us, almost daring us to take the plunge into its vivid hues and the comforting warmth of its embrace. The artist's deft hand, guided by a masterful sense of minimalism, crafts an oasis of serenity. With each stroke, excess is stripped away, leaving only the essential elements, the purest form of this symbol. In this act of reduction, we discover the profound impact of simplicity. The golden backdrop infuses the piece with an aura of calm, and the symbol itself, stripped of its typical surroundings, becomes a meditation on the elemental joy of water. This, my friends, is the art of inviting contemplation, of coaxing us to slow down in a world that often moves too swiftly. So, let us heed the call of 'Pool' and allow ourselves to wade into its serene waters, to be enveloped by its golden embrace. In this encounter, we find a moment of reprieve, a respite from the chaos of our daily lives, and a reminder that sometimes, in the simplest of symbols, we discover the profound.

Tom engages with an eclectic range of images taken from the everyday, books, art history, and television. By funnelling a broad range of source material onto the canvas, the work oozes ambiguity. Although Tom is extremely selective with his choice of word and image, he combines them in such a way to blur any apparent meaning, allowing for a unique and individual voyage into the deep void created by the multitude of layers of paint and newspaper on the canvas. Tom’s work orbits around anti-capitalist themes as his bombastic brush strokes become an expression of detest towards powers of corruption. Tom’s work is a protest against the spiritually depraved world we live in and aims to sustain and invigorate the culture of art he is so infatuated by. Tom is a London-based artist who is a graduate from the University of Brighton and is currently studying a masters at UAL: Camberwell.
