Fernando Jaramillo Vélez is a Colombian contemporary visual artist, born in Santa Marta, Colombia. With a background in Fine Arts at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Jaramillo has developed a biomorphic abstract style that stands out for its innovative use of vibrant colors, rough textures, and organic forms. His work explores themes such as memory, fragmentation, and the interaction between science, imagination, real and virtual space, reflecting influences from his natural and cultural environment on the Caribbean Coast. From a personal and intuitive search, Jaramillo has created paintings that evoke cosmological landscapes, that suggest movement and life. His work has gained international recognition. His pieces are found in private collections in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia, consolidating him as an artist of global reach. With a career spanning graphic arts, advertising, design, photography, illustration, sculpture and painting, Jaramillo remains a relevant figure in the art scene, bringing a unique voice from his Colombian heritage. Fernando Jaramillo's painting contributes to art history by expanding the possibilities of abstract art, offering a unique perspective, and representing a Hispanic American voice on the global stage. Its ability to evoke emotions and meanings, makes it a work that not only dialogues with the traditions of art, but also opens new doors to explore the relationship between humans, nature, and the cosmos. As a Colombian artist born in Santa Marta, Jaramillo carries with him the cultural and natural influences of his surroundings, but his work transcends the local, being appreciated globally. This places him within a generation of Latin American artists (such as Beatriz Milhazes or Vik Muniz) who have achieved a global impact without losing their connection to their roots.
