Watching a potter at work at the wheel, shaping a lump of clay into something beautiful is a cathartic experience. In this watercolor painting, I focus on the skilled hands of a potter in action, shaping and creating a vessel from clay on the pottery wheel as an attempt to give a glimpse into the tactile and intricate process of pottery creation. The hands, weathered by experience, convey a sense of expertise and dedication that comes from years of mastering the craft. I love monochrome and also feel that the grayscale palette lends a classic and timeless feel to the craft as well as the painting, and the absence of color helps to focus our attention on the hands' firm yet gentle grip on the clay and the finesse with which they shape its form.
