Prayer for Rain Painting

The Amazon jungle burns since last year, for months the fire ravages and destroys everything it encounters in its way. In this painting, which was created due to my feeling of powerlessness, the only way I could participate, was by sending rain through paint and prayer, and portraying the spirits of the forest finding their way to the water. The spirits were first portrayed in chalk which also represented the fragility and impermanence, on top of that marker embedded the chalk lines. The painting came to life on the beach where in tears I tuned in to the situation and jungle where I had once walked as a child and with which I feel a strong connection. The past years and at this very moment fires rage across the entire world, Siberia , California, Australia and so many more places. Ignited by greed, directly or indirectly, in specifically the Amazon, governments try to win the land covered by the jungle so that farmers can use this land for profit. The fires are often lit by the farmers who are ignited by the government's discourse, that this land is their right therefore creating an even greater divide and destruction. Most of this land is indigenous territory and helplessly they must flee this tragic situation. This painting was and is my prayer, that nature may rain there where it is needed and contribute in saving, not only all the trees and bisophere found in the hearts of our fragile earth, but also save all those living there, from the insects, birds, mammals and people who call these places home.
