About The Artwork
With this painting I am interested in pointing out the fact of the cinematization of current life. That is why it is constructed from superimposed planes that represent our primitive life distributed on screens: telephone screens, computer screens, television screens. This allows me to put in perspective the values that the current society enhances and encourages to contemplate closely how far our cavern has reached. By its force the abstract expressionism always halfway between the figure and the abstraction, allows to tell something more than what the hidden appearance.

Víctor Varela was born in Ciudad de la Habana, Cuba. At the age of 17 he decided to do a career move and left his studies to dedicate his life to his passion of art. Varela, is credited as a dramatist, an actor, producer, choreographer, and director. In 1982 he majored in fine art at academy of San Alejandro, and at the same time joined “La Escuela Nacional de Teatro de Cubanacan”. In 1985 he decided to paint outside of the professional ethic, and created “Teatro Obstáculo” with the idea to paint with time. He currently lives and works in New York and is fully dedicated to the two-dimensional painting and the theater.
