LURO alias Lucio Romagnuolo. I was born and raised in Naples, Italy, where I currently live. I'm a self-taught artist and I’ve been painting for more than 50 years. I did a lot of artistic research, I explored different styles and topics. Today I’m focusing on the devastating impact that consumerism has on people, on our society, on our world. More info about me and my works are available on my website . What I try to express in my paintings is that every individual and what surrounds him is pervaded by a deep uneasiness. In the tree of life, the consumeristic system is sawing the branch on which the mankind lays. I think about my paintings like visual poetry that speaks to the heart. By painting the human being with oil and acrylic paint on canvas, I try to visually represent the basic issues of the current society. I experienced myself the collapse of the great collective ideals and I struggle to surrender to the spread of the wild and dissolute consumerism. Needless to say, in the past decades we had an improvement of the life conditions, a wide material wealth, at the expense of an increased psychological weakness. Daily, individuals perceive messages that strategically convey ideals of beauty, wealth, status, health and awe, in order to make them feel needs that they would have never felt. Consumerism generated and increased a deep uneasiness, as well as unrealistic perspectives that are destined to be constantly unfulfilled. The person (and even more the child) who experiences all of this is lonely, weak, helpless, or as I prefer to say: “shattered”. This widely spread uneasiness is the engine of the economy of consumption. Nevertheless, factories keep producing what will turn out to be just mountains of waste, supporting this never ending vicious circle. The ultimate essence of the human life has become that to keep consuming a useless, dangerous and inexorable overabundance of material goods. Just like the mankind got sick, so did our planet, our only home, our only space shuttle in the endless universe. I believe that everyone should do his part, in little ways, doing his job in the daily life.
