About The Artwork

Project WAKARU is a Co-Creation project with art academy CIBAP. Wakaru, a Japanese term, means to understand. Explaining from successive details, fragmenting, to a complete and total story. Not the other way around, like in the West, from the whole to details. Together with Professor of Photography and her students my work is digital fragmented and converted to new frames. This transformation gave new images with new contents. I gave numbers to this new images in Project WAKARU. The numbers 45 / 46 / 47 can be together a triptych. Also can they be hung as a diptych or separately.

Borne in the Netherlands, I have always had a fascination for Japanese culture. Shintoïsm, one of the world's oldest religion, is my prior inspiration. the deep spiritual respect for nature in all its trees and plants, water and rivers, are subject of my paintings. In my childhood I loved drawing and painting and won a couple of prizes. My mother died when I was nine. This stopped nearly all my creativity. I studied medical biology at the university and became head of communications. Thanks to my triplets I started painting again.
