"Pulvis et umbra sumus" - Horace, 65-8 BC, Roman poet The light dramatically affects the varying perspectives in this 'golden relief' Inspired by the Age of Enlightenment, and the ultimate violent conclusion at Versailles during the French Revolution. Approximately 40 heavy layers of metallic acryllic golden paint provides the effect of a classic 'Roman' relief. Reliefs were commonly used to depict battles and an extended narrative. The majority of ancient reliefs were originally painted.
