Inspired by the spectacular dimension of the women's boxing matches at the Olymic games 2024, this painting captures the short but controversial bout between Imane Khelif from Algeria and Angela Carini from Italy. Independently of the hormone levels of the respective players, and the conflictual definitions of womanhood, this bout provided some excellently composed pictures that practically demand being painted.

As an artist I'm interested in classical style as well as modern technique. Specifically, I'm interested in using the visual idioms of classical style, with their emphasis on accuracy, perspective, and proportionality, in the service of creating representational art that conveys more than a photograph can. While I work with pastels, pencils, and acrylics too, I am partial to watercolours. Though watercolours are considered by some to be a poorer cousin of oil paint I believe this is an unfair and inaccurate view, encouraged on one hand by the demandingess and temperamental nature of the medium and on the other hand the enviable freshness and spontaneity it can bring to a composition in the hands of a master, In addition to my pursuit of visual art projects, I write nonfiction essays, and reviews for arts and culture website
