Quadratur des Kreises n°13 Painting

This work is inspired from Japonese geometrics called Sangaku. For this series called "Squaring the circle" (Die Quadratur des Kreises) I took one element, the quadrat with four half circles and combined it. This work is inspired from japonese geometrics called "sangaku". For this series called "Squaring the circle", I took one element, four half circles in a square, and combined it. Sangaku or San Gaku are Japanese geometrical problems or theorems, in Euclidean geometry on wooden tablets which were placed as offerings at Shinto shrines or Buddhist temples during the Edo period by members of all social classes. I like the particular esthetic, it is very differnt from the western geometry we know for example from the gothic tracery which is always centered and balanced whereas the Japanese geometry often has no centerpoint at all, shifting the balance towards one side or the other. The painting is on acid free 400gr paper. It is signed and dated on the backside
