Raleigh North Carolina The Velvet Cloak Inn Painting

This painting is of an old motel in Raleigh, North Carolina called the Velvet Cloak Inn. In its heyday in the 1960's it was an upscale and premiere luxury motel destination. It was located just a few blocks down the street from NC State University until it was demolished and a student housing center was built in its place. It was an interesting looking building architecturally, and it was one of those buildings that give a city some personality. In its last years it was a dilapidated dump full of squatters and garbage. I painted this about 2 weeks before it was destroyed - evident by the missing shutter and such its condition It was sold shortly after.
