Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Spray Paint, Ink, Digital on Canvas.

Acrylic, acrylic based medium, archival varnish UV protection, oil, and pigmented Ultrachrome inkjet prints (collage) on canvas. The piece comes ready to hang.

The basis of the artwork is an over-painted auction advertisement of Andy Warhol's »Orange Marilyn«. It is a multilayered composition in which figure and ground seem to continually shift between the analog painting and its digital counterpart. In this work I am concerned neither with depiction in the sense of representation, nor with an iconographic codification, but rather with the process and the material of painting itself. Carved, rather than painted, the result of thick layers of acrylics and oil channel a sense of depth and painterliness. Fast-paced strokes are offset with steady washes and the consistency of paint is varied.
