Red Shift Painting

This painting is based on the 'red shift' astronomical phenomenon which helped us understand that the universe appears to be expanding. I like to use Science as a basis for conceptualising imagery. The wonder and awe I feel when I think about the vastness of space is the same feeling I try and create with my work. Like the universe, I want my work to be beautiful but also dark, with an under-lying sense of dread and nothingness. I use ink because it's what I have become familiar with and I enjoy the challenge of layering different colours to create tone and depth.
