Reflection from Newlyn Painting

Artist Lou Johns trained in graphic design and illustration in Devon and London before returning to her Cornish roots to pursue her artistic career. Perhaps it was that training which led Lou to the strong but simple images she uses in her paintings. The naive style and square format she favours reflects her love of home and family, but the strength of line and the linen texture she paints upon owing much to the wild and rugged North Cornwall landscape that surrounds her. Often the muted blues, browns and greens of the land and sea give way to much loved bold colours.
