About The Artwork
This painting is entitled "Freya" and one of many in a series I have painted called "Reflective Nudes". It is inspired by Freyja, the Norse goddess of love and fertility and mythological wife of Odin. She was also thought to be the goddess of water. The "Reflective Nudes" series incorporate male and female nude forms all reflecting in water and in reflective poses, which give the impression that they are also reflecting on life itself and their own state of mind. Compared to the other monochromatic nudes in the series, Freya has a hint of sensual colour added, via the red fabric around her lower regions and her pose has an intriguing quality which asks the viewer to see more than the painted image.
