Here I assembled together fragments from a variety of everyday sources, cast into a detailed low relief surface in acrylic, and I then added watercolour, gouache, coloured pencils and other media. They were cast directly from the commonplace, unspectacular fragments of everyday life, seeking out the concealed mysteries and beauties of the natural and everyday man-made world. Bits of everyday stuff are transformed by the application of colour and shown in fresh ways, and subtle qualities of shape and surface are reinforced. Thus this work is both abstract and representational, and grows from process, serendipity and the accidental encounter with small mechanical and other forms things which turn up in everyday life. Please note that the frame size is 75 x 55 x 3 centimetres.

My obsession with art began with drawing and painting in childhood. My work arises from a delight in light, colour and the handling of paint and other media, and a great curiosity about the things I see, as well as how to explore and exploit the behavior of materials, media and processes in new ways, and an intense curiosity about the things which I see and collect. I am interested in a range of subjects and methods, from drawing and painting still life, landscape and other subjects from observation, to more non-representational, digital and process-based approaches, which are often in shallow bas relief, and are always evolving. I like to work with a variety of approaches, which are usually determined by states of light and times of day, week and year. I have painted from landscapes in Italy and here in South Wales over many years. My painting from landscape subjects is featured in a brief documentary which can be seen at https://youtu.be/jDybZDwerSE. I like to visit as many major exhibitions as I can in London, and have travelled extensively to look at both traditional and contemporary art in the major Museums and Galleries in Europe and elsewhere. I was born in London in 1947 and studied painting at the Gloucestershire and Royal Colleges of Art in the UK, where I graduated with an M Art (RCA) in 1972. After one year as an Abbey Major Scholar in Rome, I went on to teach at Cardiff and other Colleges of Art, and was Director of the Foundation Course in Art and Design there from 1992 until I retired in 2008. I am now a full time practising artist and exhibit regularly in both group and solo exhibitions in the UK and overseas, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, London Group Open and the “Discerning Eye” Exhibitions in London, where I have twice won prizes for my work, and which is included in many collections in the UK and overseas. It can be seen on my website at , and my Instagram account . I live and work in Cardiff in the UK, and am a member of the Bute Street Artists studio group there.
