Restoring balance is the seventh painting from the Autumn Equinox & Mabon series. The Autumn Equinox is a day that divides both the day and the night into equal portions. In the pagan tradition, it is known as Mabon. It is a time of balance between polarities. It’s a time for me to acknowledge both the dark and the light and to give thanks for aspects of both. The year so far has been a gratifying, but very intense. I have worked hard and produced many great paintings that I am proud of. Now I pause to reflect on challenges and acceptance, to slow down and restore my balance. Restore it to a perfect balance, like the balance in this painting. Indulge yourself a few moments to open up to something you do not know. Observe the painting’s details and let your imagination run free to interpret. Acrylic on canvas, 120cm x 80cm x 2cm.

My passion is abstract art. Not just creating art myself, but discovering art of others as well. Abstract paintings have been fascinating and inspiring me since childhood. As Dutch Contemporary Artist I specialize in abstract paintings, combining various techniques. In many of my paintings I like using seemingly random texture on canvas or wood panel which will show very subtle through the paint This gives a special extra dimension to the painting. Depending on the style, In some paintings I apply metallic or pearl coloured paint. This gives unexpected colours and reflections, depending on the angle at which you look at the painting. My work studio is in Eindhoven. Originally an industrial city, nowadays a creative arts hub for Modern Dutch Art. I was educated an engineer in computer science, graduated in Japan, and worked all over the globe. Interesting work, well paid too, but it lacked something for me. And that feeling only grew stronger with each passing year. Simultaneously, what I really did enjoy, my abstract painting, got reduced to only a few hours a week at best, in between my ever busy job and other -must do- daily activities. Then finally, I took a rather radical decision to follow heart and instinct, and traded in my laptop and travel case for a canvas and a painting brush. This meant also trading a successful business career for an uncertain future as an abstract painter. … Yet, it is a decision I absolutely do not regret, I enjoy my life as an abstract painter to the fullest. I paint daily, as I feel at that moment, without pre-set conditions. My Inspiration for eye catching art typically arises when I observe the changes in nature, or read of progress in science or amazing discovery in the cosmos. Every painting to me has to be unique, not constrained by just one style or theme. I want to create something that will attract people’s attention every day it is hanging at their wall, that will inspire and give a sense of gratification. I strive to have my painting to be your Statement Art in your home or office.
