THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM BARCELONA Davis Lisboa, "Robert Filliou 25 (404 ERROR)", 2022, oil on canvas, 31.5 x 31.5 in (80 x 80 cm) The James Norton Collection, Blue Ridge, Georgia, USA. Conceptually, I was influenced by a photograph of the artist Robert Filliou (1926 – 1987) posing with his "Galerie légitime" (1962) creation, a mobile art gallery made in a paper hat. The photograph was taken during the exhibition "Defrosting the Frozen Exhibition" at the Misfits festival in London, in 1962. Also, I included a composition of "commas" found in "Cinéma Modèle", a stamped and painted plastic plate made by the Belgium artist Marcel Broodthaers in 1970. I hope the audience recognize that each painting is a part of "THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM BARCELONA" and addresses a story of art history that is defined as the "Museums established by artists," constructed by Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, and Marcel Broodthaers. Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
