ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting explores the visual process whereby we organize images in our brain according to prior experience and create our own reality from moment. It also depicts the way in which our vision focuses on one image or aspect of an image while the surrounding forms are vague It is part of a series that explores transitions between states of being: present & past; conscious & unconscious; youth & age; vigour & weakness; innocence & experience. The paintings seek to express how matter is constantly changing into energy and the present is constantly becoming the past. They are inspired by the ideas coming out of quantum physics. This concept theorizes that there is no independently existing, objective material world that is separate from the observer. I have been working toward capturing the spirit of this idea using botanical images.
