ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I am excited to offer this painting for sale, after it has returned from an exhibition at the Pelham house Hotel in Lewes. This painting has inspired me to create a successful fashion range using motifs from a range of floral brush paintings. I learnt the basic techniques of brush painting by practising the bamboo, which is an iconic symbol of Japanese brush painting. I usually paint in black, but I also enjoy experimenting with colour. The rose is a symbol of love and the beauty of nature. I am inspired by Chinese brush painting as the two traditions share similar techniques.

I have been practising Japanese brush painting for three years. I started painting in November 2014, when I joined an art therapy group at the Phoenix Art Gallery in Brighton. I use specialist Sumi-e ink brushes. The aim of Sum-e painting is to capture the essence or the spirit of the subject in the paintings. It is intended to evoke the poetry of nature using a range of different brush techniques. I am delighted to announce that I have completed my City and Guilds in Art and Design at Level 1 at the Friends Adult Education Centre in Brighton. I have enjoyed learning new techniques and experimenting with different media. I have completed my City and Guilds in Art and Design at Level 2. I will be adding new work for sale in the new year.
