ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Deep down in my story ...she took her basket and set out to the woods... there is an old tale about a wolf and a girl. It is about our relation with the nature, but also about a woman and a man, with a certain secret inside, one that is horrifying and luring at the same time. The paintings, made on wood, are arranged in such a way to make the viewer feel watched by the wolf. A small installation is in the centre of the space – resembling remnants of the Little Red Riding Hood.

*1984 lives and works in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Vienna (Austria) In my work I follow ecological and environmental problems, focusing on relationships between man, animals and nature. I like search new ways and techniques, crossing borders of traditional medium. When I started painting, I was using less traditional surfaces – brown paper, damaged doors from dumps, later on it was hardboard and canvas. The media I used included asphalt, oil, acrylic paint, ink, scratching, pencil (destruction). I experiment with contrasting materials by blending a variety techniques. I work on wood by painting, carving and scorching (Fire Painting). The topics of my paintings are actually variations on the internal feeling of a human being, an individual, a creature in the dehumanised urban environment. They’re sketches of situations, scenes, thoughts, yet they’re not expressed in a straightforward manner, but on a sort of second level. Essentially, I’m a figuralist painter. My works always include certain beings, creatures, animals or their shadows. More or less concrete, sometimes only suspected. The world of phantoms and myths is more real than reality. I love myths, legends, fairy tales, and watch how they evolve from the time I was little. Someone once said that myths can only be narrated by those who have a myth of their own. I hope that within me, I have something like that as well... Olga graduated on the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (Slovakia) and has also studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts (Austria). She has realized dozens of solo and group exhibitions in Slovakia and in other European countries. She has participated in many charity and art - environmental projects. She was three times finalist of the “Painting of the Year“ award and on the longlist Strabag Artaward International 2022.
