Inspired by historical architectural blueprint techniques, Kaufmann paints with cyanotype and creates the piece with shadows of 3-dimensional objects. The art is created by the sun and time. This particular piece was inspired by a construction technique Kaufmann learned while working for architect Frank Gehry using "ruled surfaces" as a way to create curved shapes out of straight structural members.
