ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The subject of Série 2 : here we're in a different temporality from Série 1: we're in the one before or after our incarnation. Where is the soul/consciousness physically on the picture? Have you recognized it ? It's free, it has a body with more possibilities and a wider view of the universe and life. Inspiration : I've been a passionate photographer for many years, especially in ultra-macro photography, and every year I spend a lot of my free time exploring the Alps. It's in these immersions in the heart of the forests that I find biological elements, biomorphics elements, colors, or natural phenomena like erosion linked to water, earth and wind that I transpose into this Série 2 painting, to produce moving and free paintings. Design : how is this Série 2 of paintings created ? I make most of my wooden painting supports in my workshop, because my painting technique and the tools I've made don't allow me to paint on a flexible surface like canvas. In addition, commercially available stretchers tend to deform over time and with temperature variations, so I want my work to last through generations and centuries. Every painting begins with a sketch on paper, then I apply layer after layer of pigments, mediums and acrylics, where each composition is scrupulously detailed, weighed and recorded in a notebook. My paintings are shipped around the world with the greatest care from my art studio in the Alps. All paintings are signed on the back and have a reference number also written on the back of the work. All paintings come with a certificate of authenticity and an invoice. On request, I can create an exceptional piece adapted to your interior spaces, your favorite colors, your dimensions and your budget. You can pay in several installments on my website :

I'm a professional artist living in the mountains of the Chartreuse massif in the Alps. I produce my paintings from my art studio and my artistic expression is geometric abstraction. My artwork has been listed on the international market since 2014, and also entered in the Swatch Group art collection in Geneva in 2015. - About the artist Christopher Schmitt, by Virginie Baro () : Series 1: the static : Christopher Schmitt's first painting in 2010 is the founding act of a research that continues today. This painting was born of an irrepressible need to materialize his thoughts. The pictorial space is articulated around colored surfaces (yellow, black, red) contained within geometric shapes (lozenges, squares, rectangles). The combination of all these elements is the symbolic representation of our incarnation and life on Earth. The three red lozenges reflect our consciousness, conveyed by a body - the black rings, which carry us from light (yellow), a source of attraction and elevation, to darkness (black), both limiting and constraining. The result is "Series 1". The following paintings are a variation on this structural research, materializing a form of spirituality in a graphic, minimalist aesthetic style. Gradually, the pictorial space expands, black surfaces disappear, impasto fades in favor of flat tints, gaining in purity and simplicity, thus provoking a stronger visual impact. The artist's canvases support a form of introspection. For the viewer, questioning these abstractions is more broadly a question about the rational beings we are, and our place in this life. Series 2: Static movement : Convinced that we are more than a body that lives only once, the painter pursues his quest by freeing our consciousness from its carnal envelope and the black ring. The result is movement, materialized in watery, biomorphic textures that seem to spread across the surface before our eyes. This is the birth of "Série 2". While "Series 1" is intended to signify our presence in the world, "Series 2" is positioned in a different temporality, that which comes before or after our incarnation. In this way, the artist moves from a static production of rigorously arranged elements to a work based on the fluidity of material shaped in successive layers, sometimes scraped, sometimes sanded. Monotyped impressions are reminiscent of organic surfaces such as the veins of a leaf.
