ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is one of a collection I describe as autobiographies. It was created in layers, first with acrylic and then oil. The background to the painting resonates with me but is not essential for the viewer; if it connects on some level, that is all that matters. I choose to work initially in acrylic, in an almost automatic way, not knowing what the eventual outcome will be; this begins to unfold as I work in oil. It soon becomes clear and I follow my intuition. S u r f a c e was shown at FLUX EXHIBITION, London in April 2018
