ABOUT THE ARTWORK

SEA AND SKY AND MELANCHOLIA AT THE END OF SUMMER II Triptych 2017 acrylic and oil on canvas 380 (w) x 150 (h) x 2 cm LARGE-SIZED PAINTINGS. LARGE-SIZED TRIOLOGY AS TRIPTYCH. I share the opinion of the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944), that paintings contain not only a creative message as single piece. You can look at them also in a major conceptional context. This triology SEA AND SKY AND MELANCHOLIA AT THE END OF SUMMER II combines three new and essential of my works (2016/2017) from aesthetic standpoints as well as with regard to contents. Summer is over soon and the days getting shorter again. Autumn is on the way. We feel the last warm breeze on our skin. Blue surrounds us and is the dominant colour. We are in between summer and autumn, in between blossom and fading. But we are just bystanders, we have no right to a say in a matter. Sea and sky exist from the beginning to the end of all times. And what about us? Do we have collect enough precious summer moments to survive the cold and darker days? With every new year the summer feels shorter, and life too. Where are the endless summer months at the seaside, far away from daily routine, where are our younger and lighthearted days? Hope is beyond the horizon line. But we are fighters and we have nothing to fear. Sea and sky and sometimes also melancholia will accompany us. And we should remember Dylan Thomas and his poem: "Do not go gentle into that good night." Next summer will come. Farewell warming sun. This is not the final. The triptych combines following works and should "read" from left to right: "UNTIL THE BLUE SKIES DRIVE THE DARK CLOUDS FAR AWAY" acrylic and oil on canvas, 2017, 120 (w) x 150 (h) x 2 cm left part of the triptych "WHERE THE WHITE WINDS BLOW" acrylic and oil on canvas, 2017, 120 (w) x 150 (h) x 2 cm center part of the triptych "COLD WATER BELOW THE SURFACE OF YOUR SOUL" arylic and oil on canvas, 2016, 120 (w) x 150 (h) x 2 cm right part of the triptych * * * * "Do not go gentle into that good night Rage, rage again the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas * * * * All of these paintings also for sale as single pieces here at Saatchi Art. This triptych offers a price advantage in comparision to the summarized single selling prices. For further information about the specific topic of each artwork please visit the pages of the 3 single paintings at Saatchi Art. * * * * This piece is a true LARGE-SIZED TRIOLOGY. For a large-scale, aesthetic and colourful impression on your wall AND as my authentic and personal artwork with an artistic subsurface message. I use exclusively oil and acrylic colours, canvas and wooden frames in a professional museum quality. The three paintings wear my signature on the front and they are signed, entitled and dated on the backside. Deliberately the sides (about 2 cm wide) are not part of the paintings and show the black painted canvas. The paintings are ready to hang (on the backsides: high-quality iron plates with metal inserts and nylon rope for gallery use), unframed and don’t need a frame or any additional surface treatment. All paintings need a single hanging (no backside connections between the paintings). This triology contains 3 single paintings, each in acrylic and oil on canvas and with dimensions of 120 (w) x 150 (h) cm. I prefer a hanging distance each of 10 cm between the 3 single paintings. Complete dimensions of this artwork, including the hanging space between the single paintings: 380 (w) x 150 (h) x 2cm. The piece (3 paintings) will be safely shipped in a custom wooden crate. It will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a cover letter and my poems (written for the three paintings) as an additional part of the artwork. Please note: In context pictures are not necessarily to scale and are for illustrative purposes only. If you have any questions about this triptych or any other piece, feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for taking an interest in my work. Warm wishes, Christian

CHRISTIAN BAHR has been a passionate, profound contemporary German painter and experienced draftsman for over 35 years. His large abstract works can currently be found in private collections and public spaces in the US, Mexico, Canada, UK, China, Thailand, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Malta, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. His atmospheric large paintings are poetry and artistic struggle at the same time. They capture both harmony and conflict, overall reflecting a strong aesthetic. He has participated in many national and international exhibitions. What he believes in: * “Not everything is art. But art is everything and everything breathes art in one way or another. Art is the true beauty of mankind.” * “I work in my studio nearby the big German coastal city of Hamburg, on the North sea. I’m a seeker as a painter, in search of answers. The single human takes center stage. I work constantly, with great passion and discipline on my further artistic way. I have a clear, strong painting philosophy. And I deal with philosophical, mythological as well as with historical subjects in my works.” * “I go my own way in my paintings. I find the source for my inspiration in me. Spontaneous action is the key, my preferred method. I work intuitively and in most cases without previous sketches, because I do not need a creative distance, I only reduce the view of our surroundings. Added value and clarity through abstraction. It must be rough, original, melancholic, dark, and yet at the same time bright, poetic, clear and full of hope. No maybe, no lukewarm. Every moment counts. That's exactly how I paint."
