ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'Skyscraper' is a heavily textured acrylic painting on a 156 lb sheet of Arches hot press watercolour paper. It measures 14.96" x 21.46". I have painted right to the edge of the paper. This would be work well in either a floating frame with the edges on view or it could also work well with a mat. I often work intuitively and begin with random mark-making. This painting began this way as well many painting sessions followed. There are many layers of paint with lots of texture and visual interest. I want the viewer to feel the energy and spontaneity I felt while painting this - and to enjoy the many small details as well as the whole. This painting is signed on the back and will be securely packaged and shipped in a box to ensure safe delivery. Please Note: The in situ images are for display purposes only to show the work in different room settings and/or with suggested frames if desired. Please refer to the exact size of the work provided in the description.

Hi, I'm Mary Ness. I am happy you are here to see what I've been up to. I'm an abstract expressionist artist and designer living and working just outside Toronto, Canada. My creative journey, with all of it's twists and turns, goes back to my early childhood. There I was, little me, lying belly down on the kitchen floor with my coloring book and crayons. I was caught in a sunbeam coming through the window - and that's when the magic began. I paint with both traditional media such as acrylics and/or oils and cold wax, mixed media collage as well as painting with digital tools such as Photoshop and Corel Painter. Often I combine digital and analog to achieve my goal. Sometimes a painting is finished quickly and other times there are many layers and visits to the mirror with the painting, always searching for that elusive moment when I can say, that's it, I've got it! I want the viewer to be drawn in, to see the layers, the brushstrokes - to feel the energy and emotion I experienced while making this piece of art.
