Sad Bowie 2014 Painting

One of my main subjects these days is David Bowie. This genius creator also happened to have extremely interesting features, especially as he aged. The planes and asperities of his face are so interesting to render in colors, twisting, and turning... I chose a purple palette for this work because of the deep world-weariness and sadness that emerges from it. In my mind, as I was painting, I felt that it represented Bowie looking back on his contribution to the world with some satisfaction, but also with deep sadness that this contribution would end soon.
