Happy Saint Lucy / Lucia Day! In Sweden, she's a young girl in a candle head dress bringing the light. In Italy, she's a martyr who put out her own eyes to avoid seeing evil deeds. Fusion. Don't go out on Lucy's night, or her troll entourage, the Lusseferda might get you. Light is celebrated today because on the former calendar, December 13 was the winter solstice. Lucy also brings Lussekatter, cat's tail shaped saffron buns. Which makes total sense as Freya and her cat sleigh preceded Santa and his reindeer.
