"It seems that humanity is learning very slowly. Your weakness even today may act as a trigger for a stronger one to attack and subdue." The "Salpaad's daughters" painting has been thought of as a finishing one of the "Women on inconvenience" series re-thinking some of the Biblical female characters whose story is not so straightforward. At first, I was inspired by the fact that some young women living thousands of years ago in a very strict androcentric culture found the courage to raise their voices and stand for their rights to land ownership. So initially I thought the painting is about five strong girls with a bit of remonstrative spirit. However some days later after I started with it, the War in Ukraine burst out and the world got shaken up by the news of terrible war crimes like those in Bucha and other Ukrainian towns. I was one of those who has lost a sense of reality and could not but weep out of helpless anger for many weeks before I could physically continue with this painting. And when I finally did, my Salpaad's girls have unintentionally but inevitably undergone some changes in their appearances. You can see the painting as Salpaad's or Bucha's girls, but whoever they are, my position remains the same - if we dare to call ourselves civilized humans then we should all agree that being weaker and different does not give any right to another one to misuse their stronger standing. My name is Tania Potapenko, alias ARTMOODS TP, and I am a figurative art artist based in Helsinki/Finland. I'm working with portraiture and emotionally compelling figurative compositions, primarily in traditional media, but also digitally. I am interested in humans as individuals, and in my art I am especially studying those who are at the crossroads in their life. I find it captivating to observe how people face difficult questions, break out of old paradigms, find reasonings, make conclusions, reflect on life around and react in challenging situations. Behind a scanty body language and externally calm behavior, there is sometimes a chaotic labor of confronting thoughts, which one can notice in the eyes, face muscles tension and stiff posture. I find it very therapeutic also for myself to impersonate with a subject on a painting. Probably in the end, my art is all about my own inner arguments and I look to connect through it to the like-souled audience out there. You can find me living my artistic live on Instagram
