ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"La Santísima muerte" is s painting made in a mixed technique of acrylics and gold dust on canvas. This artwork is about the holy death (Santa Muerte).When I first came across her image in México City's famous neighbourhood Tepito I was so impressed and mistified by her image that i did some research on her. Thats how I found the first records of her apparitions to a catholic priest in Mexico who claimed she appeared before him and told him she had been replaced by the Lady of Guadalupe (the mexican virgin) . The Vatican didmt recognize her, call her a demon and nowadays hasnt been recognized as a cult by the Mexican instituciones, despite of its popularity.Thats why this painting blends the image of the holy death with the one of the Lady of Guadalupe.
